The small village is best known of its well-preserved historic houses and wind-mills (breathtaking if you ask me). There are number of house museums that offer unique glimpse into locals well preserved traditions. From yellow, smelly cheese tasting at the Catharina Hoeve cheese farm, to trying out the wooden clogs at the De Zaanse Schans Clog Workshop, one thing is certain – you won’t get bored.
My grandma had a pair of old clogs hanging around the house when I was growing up. So, when my best-friend cousin and I got bored playing dolls and detectives, we used to slip into her enormous wooden clogs and pretend we knew how to walk on wood. Experience, my feet still remember up to this day (in a good way).
